Cons: Doesn t hold my pop.
Other Thoughts: Would recommend this to anyone.

Rating: 5/5Good Stuff
Pros: Does everything as advertised. Good quality, no issues with system recognition in either Win 7 or Linux Mint 14 builds. However, mixed feelings concerning noise output and drivers, see below.
Cons: Two quibles. One, can t really decide how noisy this drive is. In an ultra quiet build, drive was very noticeable during reads and writes, but feel this was mostly vibration noise. In another less quiet build, drive was basically inaudible, even though fans in this build aren t outrageously loud. So, must be a vibration issue dependent upon choice of tower. Lastly, official Asus drivers were not recognized by Win 7, so couldn t take advantage of drive s E-Green feature. Oddly, drivers worked on Linux. FYI, this is for bare drive only, no documentation or SATA cable included, but not a problem for me.

Pros: Price is good
Cons: Doesn t work with Win 7
Other Thoughts: Just a question: is it compatible with Windows 7.
My OS is Windows 7 Ultimate, and the computer didn t recognize the device - not at all. It s powered, the tray opens/closes, and that s all - it doesn t play the DVD either. Is it a matter of drivers or anything else. I ll appreciate your help.

Rating: 4/5Update
Pros: I own this drive 8 months now. It still works like it should. It s not a 70 dollar unit so I don t expect it to be. It s cost effective. I use it every week. Reads and writes every disc I shoved in it. Gets the job done.
Cons: If you ve ever had a chance to ride an old Harley, you know it s not a quiet bike. It s mechanics are pretty scary. The tray mechanism makes it s noises and sounds like it was removed from a 90 s boom box. However, it gets the job done and it s what I paid for it to do.
Other Thoughts: The tolerences on it s mechanical features don t seem too close as a top dollar unit. Which raises some curiosity. It works quite well aside from the noise. Sometimes there are reasons and an upside to this. For an example, great automatic assault rifles have looser tolerances in order to function through dirt and mud and to prevent jaming. One could suspect to prevent mechanical jaming is a reason why this dvd burner/player is made this way. It s hard to believe Asus would just make junk.

Rating: 5/5Fast.
Pros: Works great. There is a boot up noise like other review but does it really make your computer experience any less. Only need it for window installation and any data I might need to burn but now a days not much with memory sticks available.
Cons: None. Buy It
Other Thoughts: Asus Crosshair V
AMD 8350
Older model SSD not sure works great so don t care
Asus 660 TI 2GB
Corsair Dual Fan Water Cooler H100
G.Skill Sniper Series 8GB 2x4GB
Acer 27 Monitor
Run all the latest game without any trouble ie. Star Craft 2 Heart of Swarm, Diablo, Battlefield ect
Generic 730 Power Supply works great and haven t seen any performance issue so not sure why anyone running on 1 graphic card would need any more even with over clock everything

Rating: 5/5Great Value
Pros: Good Specs, Great prices, Windows 8 recognized immediately with no issues. Tested burning with no problems.
Cons: None so far, if I were a neophyte, perhaps there would be a few self induced negatives.
Other Thoughts: This device is almost too cheap for the quality, I remember buying a Plextor CDR for 60.

Rating: 2/5Couldn t Even Reach 8x Write Speed
Pros: It successfully reads a DVD movie and a DVD-R data disc. It also successfully reads its own DVD-R discs that it wrote.
Cons: The spec says the write speed is 24x. I was testing a 16x DVD-R disc and put about 4.16 GB of data into it. It took 13 minutes to burn. It s supposed to take around 3 minutes if this DVD-writer is truly capable of a 16x write.
Other Thoughts: The main purpose for me in buying this is to replace an old DVD-writer that isn t working. If you bought this thinking you will get 16x write speed when using 16x DVD-R discs, you will be disappointed.
